Did the DIODES in the E4OD move from the solendoid pack into the EEC-IV after 1995?

E4OD Diodes Solenoid Pack

Unread post by wwhite »

Ok, so, I've read everywhere that the 1994 and older have diodes in the solenoid pack, and I've confirmed this in my own transmission.
Now, a 1995 and newer solenoid pack does not have the diodes in the solenoid pack, sure, Ok.

Everyone says that the diodes have moved from the solenoid pack into the EEC after 1995.

I'm trying to confirm this, but cannot.
I have EEC-IV from 1994 and an EEC-IV from 1996, and they are identical, Speed Density.
There are no additional diodes in the newer EEC.

SO, where did the diodes go? Can someone confirm or deny what I am misunderstanding?

I'm starting to think the diodes moved into the MLPS, not the EEC.

The major mix up here is the years the eec-iv carried over when eec-v came in to the mix.

ALL e4od's with an EEC-IV have diodes in the solenoid pack.

All EEC-V have the diodes in the ecu.

The MLPS went 'digital' later on. It was given many switches instead of being a single analog potentiometer.

MLPS has nothing to do with the flyback diodes for the shift solenoids as none of the mlps wiring has anything to do with the solenoids.

If your in doubt you can always use an earlier solenoid pack even with an eec v to have double protection.

if you use a newer non protected solenoid pack with the older eec-iv the flyback voltage when the solenoid shuts off will fry the circuitry in the eec iv.

So, the 1997 f250 with SD eec-iv e4od, will have diodes in the solenoid pack, correct?

It’s only the eec-V that have diodes, and that could be from 1995-1997 e4od MAF?
