I know that the 1997 Explorer 5.0 pcms' are almost impossible to read with my Scanmatik with Oleg's PCMflash tool/s but I thought that I might be able to when an Explorer friend asked me to copy his 1997 XDT2, because it had already been tuned a bit to remove Cats' and EGR function. The PCMflash software says it can't read the pcm or 2 other nearly identical XDT2s.
I need a way to copy, read the Master, then copy or clone 2 others.
Late Nov 2023, I successfully read a few pcm's through the J-3 port withe the QuarterHorse and TunerPro and I'm pretty sure that it needs to be the RT version.
My Question at this point is, Can I copy the bin file from the 1997 XDT2 pcm and then write/flash it into a second pcm with TunerPro RT and the QuarterHorse? Or, who can copy the master pcm and write it back to the other 2?
This has to do with a 1997 Ex 5.0 and 5 speed going into a 1992 Explorer 4dr.

pcmflash doesnt write 2 bank ecus, oleg and I went through some testing many years back and we could read but was having timing issues when writing so he removed the 2 banks.
yeah with the qh you can simply read the tune out
as far as writing youd need to toss a j3 chip in there or write it directly

@decipha So, you're saying that I could write the "master tune" to the other pcm directly that has the same hardware code and a near identical pcm?
I'm not finding any "flashing" instructions opposite of the reading ones in you getting started document. That is the Moates QuarterHorse and
TunerPro RT that I'm working with. In the a.m. I'll try a read after I've rested and got awake again.
This is related to the topic of developing the definition files of the tad newer 4 bank Ex/MM 5.0 waisted spark pcms. After the oddball 1997 pcms, there is the early 5.0 OBD2 type that use return fuel and a 3-wire cam ps and then the 1999 to 2001 Ex/MM 5.0s with non-return fuel and a 2-wire
cam ps. I myself might would use the later once. I'm hoping to find other Ex/MM 5.0 users that would eventually be able to tune that unique group.

Re: XDT2 1997 Explorer 5.0 pcm
I had a successful read on the 3rd '97 pcm. After #2 failed with all capital "F"s, after that I noticed that someone had used a blue marker inside of it and wrote "Damaged part".

Hardware Utilities/
Moates PROM I/O.
It appears that the program and device are capable of not only "reading", but "writing".
I wonder if clicking the "erase chip" button will make the "program chip" button light up?
Michael, have you or anyone else used this feature before? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
