Forced induction or stroker?

Unread post by efloth »

Thinking about adding some power to my 93 f150 4x4. My current 351w has 9.7:1 compression which I went with thinking I would be adding a supercharger in the future. I am now thinking a 13-14:1 compression 427 stroker may be a better option since forced induction requires some custom fabrication and California smog guys will probably frown if they see a sc under the hood,

I run e85 90+ percent of the time and since this is a daily driver, efficiency has come to the forefront.

I have a roller block in the shop I could build up into a 427 for 5k and then swap my top end over to on a weekend. Or Would a supercharger be better/more enjoyable? Since I tow regularly, torque is a priority over hp. I have to keep the factory exhaust so I have two cats in series. Pipes are 3” after the downpipes collect into the first cat. I think the added displacement would be ok but not entirely sure. What do you guys think?

Youll never get high enough compression to come anyhwere near the power youll get with forced induction its just not possible.

The biggest problem with the sbf is the heads just dont flow enough unless you invest big bucks. Far cheaper to slap a blower on and go about your business.

For trucks I highly recommend smaller inch engines. A 302 is far superior to a 460 when you have the exact same heads. The running fuel consumption is significantly less and they both make the exact same power since its boosted and your head limited.

With E85 Id recommend an 11:1 compression 302. A 351 would be ok too. 18 lbs of boost and your at 750rwhp minimum and with a tame cam 900 ft lbs of tq. I would much prefer and recommend a turbo over a blower but the CA folks wouldnt take too kindly to that.

I have AFR 165 CNC ported heads with a 58cc chamber. I could throw a thinner head gasket on and get it up to 10.3:1 or so. If I could find an old Kenne bell kit would that be the way to go? I don't really like the idea of a centrifugal sc since I spend most of the time under 3k rpm

the old kb kits leave a lot to be desired and are too small

youll want/need at least a 2.8 L blower minimum.
