PDAE6 Strategy Missing?

Hello, first post here.

It seems that there is a dead link for the PDAE6 strategy in the Downloads section of this website. This strategy should still work for my truck which is a PDAE3 strategy if I am correct. Am I no longer able to get this strategy?

Eric at HPTUNERS is working on support for EEC-V with their MpVi3 device, so I am deciding between them or doing it myself with a Tactrix OpenPort 2.0, PCMFlash and TunerPro.

Ah ok I was under the impression that it would be available since it is specifically listed, and with the following message at the bottom of the page: “ Premium membership required for any other strategy not specifically listed above.”

For what HPT costs vs what you get, it probably would be money better spent becoming a premium member and going the TunerPro route, and that's assuming HPT would even gain support for that particular PCM. While they do list 99-04 Mustangs, which are the same 'class' (EEC-V), they don't list any rangers that are pre-07. And with Tunerpro, you have options like the QH, which is really nice for dialing in tuning without reflashing the PCM with every little change.

I gotcha. I am designing a low power turbo setup and I just need to adjust the injector curve for some larger injectors, add more fuel to the open loop tables, and probably pull just a hair of timing to be on the safe side. This is less about making power and more about the learning experience.

I'm a college student so money isn't flowing very quick even though I've been working through this summer. However I am a computer science major going into my third year. I do a lot of my own work with low level programming so going the more complicated route to save money isn't super intimidating to me. I am really interested in the possibility of writing custom code. The only J3 chip makers I've seen since Moates died out is TwEECer and TI performance, and I have heard bad things about the latter.

Overall I am leaning towards the J2534 Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 and just reflashing when I need to make a change. To use TunerPro I need to swap the banks back and forth for reading and writing is that correct?

To go the reflash route I believe all I need is the J2534, the PCMFlash software with Module 29 from the russian guy, a tool to do the bank swap/conversion, and TunerPro.

Keep in mind Michael (decipha) has Jaybirds, J3 chips and Quarterhorses available. I have no experience with TeEECer or TI Performance, but I have a QH and it works great. I also have PCMFlash, and use a MDI2 to read/flash the EEC-V.

Yes, to read/flash with PCMFlash and then edit in Tunerpro, you'd need to swap the banks around. Michael put up a utility here to swap the banks around.

Yes, that's about all you'd need to read/flash with PCMFlash.

Have any of you used the Tactrix OpenPort 2.0 (non-clone) version? Is it unreliable at times or have these devices bricked pcm’s before? The forums on their site seem pretty active.

I honestly have zero experience with anything but TunerPro and Moates hardware. And I'm by no means an expert lol.

Something I don't think I was very clear on - HPT supporting EEC-V does not mean they'll support editing your strategy. EEC-V is a high level designation that covers most/all vehicles roughly 96-04. They already do support EEC-V, but if you look at their supported vehicles, the 99-04 Mustang and 99-03 powerstroke F250 are about all I can see that would be EEC-V (I could have missed something going through their list), after 04, they moved to other ECM/PCMs for the most part. The ranger is kind of an outlier that from their perspective, 'who would want to tune a ranger? Why should we support this?'. Now, could they end up supporting the PDAE6 strategy? Nothing's impossible... but it's not something I'd bet the farm on.

As a personal aside... HPT's UI is something out of the 80's or 90's lol. I'm familiar with EFILive and TunerPro, and those two are 'roughly similar' IMO, but HPT is neanderthal by comparison. And their 'credit' structure is for the birds, IMO.
