At what RPM does a single coil not have enough dwell time

I remember reading somewhere that a single coil doesn't have enough dwell time to provide strong spark above a certain rpm. At what point should COP or even wasted spark be considered.

dwell depends on the coil itself and temperature but many have taken single coils over 7k rpm.

Bigger problem you run in to is too weak of a spark at higher rpm when trying to ignite heavily boosted engines especially at rpm.

If your seeing 7k+ then its time to upgrade.

Thanks, i thought it was closer to 7500, glad i asked. I'm helping a friend spec out his Holley setup and told him COP was a better option. It's a 408w with afr 225 heads with a ysi. I'm going to try and convince him to go with COP.

Using 7000 rpm;
dizzy rpm is half that
3500 rpm x 8 = 28,000 spark events per min
/60 = 466 spark per sec
1/466 =.002
So 2 milliseconds for coil saturation. not so great, range is 2 to 5 typically from what I was researching which backs up Decipha, not that he needs it, LOL
