Boost limiting valve (Marauder centrifugal SC)

For anything machine shop / speed shop or engine specific. More technical than the range but not quite tuning specific.

Boost limiting valve (Marauder centrifugal SC)

Unread post by Apex »

Anyone ever run a boost limiting valve on a centrifugal supercharger setup? Assuming they work as designed (basically a wastegate with an adjustable spring on the cold side piping), as long as it is BEFORE the MAF on a blow-through setup there shouldn't really be any issue with running one right?

We are trying to get away with running a larger vortech without forging the engine first. If it blows up it blows up, but would prefer to spend the money buying the larger supercharger kit (ADTR Marauder race-kit) instead of spending more time and money later to swap the SC, intercooler, piping, etc. I don't remember how I calculated it, but it seemed like even the largest pulley on the JT trim supercharger would result in far too much boost for the stock bottom end, hence the idea of limiting the boost via a BLV.

Supposedly BLVs can also be used to run a smaller pulley without over-boosting which in turn generates more boost at earlier RPM ranges, increasing the overall powerband without running too much boost at higher RPMs.

Ive ran in to them a couple times when weve swapped pulleys and couldnt make anymore boost

so yeah they work

yep usually mounted before the maf and intercooler

Were they a manual valve like this https://928motorsports.com/product/mega ... ter-valve/

Or was it more of mounting a wastegate with a boost controller?

Will probably call up 928 motorsports and see how confident they are that it can handle limiting a JT Trim vortech and not get boost creep. I believe even with the largest vortech pulley it probably will still make around 17 lbs which is just way too much for a stock 4v, but an aluminator block has been acquired for a built motor.

Worst case it sounds like there is plenty of room to just put a second BLV on the piping before the intercooler, but probably just want to do that when the kit is built if it's needed.

No absolutely not

Im referring to the cheaper spring actuated ones
