WOT spark source

Unread postby blocmi » Sat May 23, 2020 8:35 pm

I was previously fighting some idle issues which I seemed to have corrected with some idle spark changes. It would seem the version of U4P2 I had been using had different values for Idle spark gain and idle spark min clip, than a later version I downloaded.
Idle spark gain (0.25 vs 1.00)
Idle spark min clip (10 vs 20)
So copied all my tune parameters (intentionally changed) to the latest U4P2 that I downloaded and all the idle problems smoothed right out. But...

Previously the spark source was showing as 2 for the borderline table at WOT, and actual total spark at WOT was close to the FN2200 TABLE
After these changes i noticed the actual spark is a little lower than it has been at WOT .
After looking at it more, I noticed spark source now bounces between source 8 and 9 and idle, but doesn't switch to 2 at WOT at any RPM range. At WOT the spark source is Idle feedback min clip (8).

Does this sound right?
Shouldn't the spark source at WOT be FN2200?

dont sound right should be fn2200 at wot or anytime at part throttle for that matter

did you verify your spark matches the borderline knock table at wot? Make sure ACTs aren't retarding you.

ACT was 82 degrees, so that wasn't pulling timing. Neither was ECT.

I have bumped up all values in FN2200 by +5 after fuel was dialed in. Borderline spark (FN2200) table says I should be at 32 degrees at 5K. Dash is showing 29.25 and spark a spark source of 9 at WOT 5K. I previously said spark source 8, but I was incorrect.

Could increasing this FN2200 make idle feedback lowest spark the ecu is seeing WOT?

I did a BIN compare to U4P2 and the differences are mostly intentional and pretty basic... MAF, injectors, load table, startup fuel and air. The only spark related change is FN2200.

Some differences that deviate from the norm:
DFSO set to 254 - changed to stop surge during coast
AFECT1 - changed from 190 to 180
FN513 all y set to 400- changing had to do with converter stall interfering with low rpm load.
TP WOT Breakpoint - set to 400- changing had to do with converter stall interfering with low rpm load.

no it sounds like your clipped by MBT spark. Go see if the MBT spark table is limiting you.

The MBT spark table values are less than the fn2200 values. The MBT spark table looks similar to FN2200 values in U4P2 before I changed them.

When increasing fn2200 should I have also increased the values in MBT spark to match?

I kicked up all the values in the MBT spark table and it stated using the FN2200 table during moderate acceleration and up.
But that also caused the spark source at idle to jump between 8,9 and 2, so I dropped the low load, low RPM, MBT Spark values back down.

Are the y-axis units in both MBT spark and FN2200 both Load values?

yes

you can lower idle spark by increasing the torque reserve scalar
