New engine - New tune for my 370CI Dart SHP

Unread postby 289Hilux » Sun Nov 11, 2018 2:28 am

I have just ditched my old 289W that I run a GUFB - A9L tune in an Australian EEC-IV with Moates Quaterhorse.
My new engine is a 370 Dart SHP with alloy heads, Weiand tunnel ram with custom plenum and a 75mm T/B and a Comp Cam roller for EFI and plus 347 cubes. XFI™, 236HR-14
It will have 10.75:1 comp and 32" tuned length headers.
Things in my currant tune (289 Windsor)I have started to make changes to are.
Engine size to 370 CI,
Injector high/low slope breakpoint 60Lb Siemens injectors FRPP60 from here http://www.efidynotuning.com/injdata.htm
Injector firing order (back to 5.0L)
MAF transfer 60LB calibrated from here http://www.efidynotuning.com/maf.htm

What else will I need to change and to what before I start the engine?
Any thoughts and advice will be appreciated.

Cheres Richard, down under.

dont forget the injector offset

u need to change the cranking pw too

why did u change the maf? I take it you put on a new 60lb calibrated foxbody maf?

what is mbt timing for your new heads compared to your old? Adjust your spark by that difference for a starting point. Can do later if mbt is higher.

did you kick up transient and accel fuel?
most likely will need to but can wait to do later

if your cam is wilder than the old youll prob have to kick up the isc multiplier when cold, can do later

youll have to kick up dashpot too, can do later

and usually most bigger inch engines especially with older style cylinder heads (have no idea what u have) will want to run slightly rich with a touch more enrichment fuel. I would command 0.82 or so at wot for starters til u get it dialed in and see where shes happiest.

once u fire it up and get the idle fuel right be sure to get the throttle stop set correctly.

Thanks for all the info, great help

I changed the maf as I will be going from the standard EB 5.0L here in Aus of 55mm to a 75mm from a American Mustang (i believe)
Should I be starting with something else?
I am using 195cc AFR heads
I will make a note of what I need to change, I guess small changes will be best.

I will make sure to go thought idle set up process.

yea if you have just a stock 75mm american maf you need that transfer function. Perhaps the 99-04 mustang maf on the homepage would be the much better start to dial in. A 60lb calibrated has 3x more range than a stocker you will no doubt be dumping fuel with that much higher transfer in there.

nice, those heads are a little on the smaller side but should work well. The usually MBT in the mid 30s and should be on the MBT chart on the homepage.

Hi.
Finally finished the 370 Dart, took a bit longer as I decided to build a new C4 and dump the AOD.

So I installed the Siemens Deka 610cc injectors p/n 107961 and it started straight away but it was way rich O2 wideband was off the chart like 6-8 .
It blew loads of rich black smoke, I fiddled with the High / Low slope and it made no change.
Just to check I re installed my 32LB stockers with my old tune, just change the firing order, it runs fine, it is lean as you would expect, It fires right up.
What has gone wrong, did I miss something.
Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers Richard.

I would hope not!!!
I work for Repco here in Australia, Like your NAPA in the states, under the same GPC umbrella.
I purchased the injectors from one of our Vendors. They have all the numbers and the DEKA logo on them.

Would you have a suitable base tune I could try, happy to pay for it.

Cheers Richard

Just had a thought - could it be the slight difference in impedance of the injectors.
Old factory ones 14.9 Ohms
New DEKA 62Lb 12.5 Ohms

Or am I missing something else.

no, if your current injectors are dialed in simply swap out your injector data and it should be good enough to dial it if its not you have fake injectors

So I was talking to a customer - local tuner today, he said he has seen these injectors need a low slope up around 80 to 100.
Does this sound feasible? Have you ever encountered this as a method of tuning?
I rang our Vendor and they assured me they are genuine injectors.

Thanks Richard.

So put the stock injectors back in. Starts a treat idles at 14.2.
Drives on cruise at 14.2
Accelerates well goes to 10 at only half throttle. So some work to do there. It still has my 289 tune in it. Although I have used your new GUFX and ADX with my bin.
Interesting how the US data will work ( with some unpadding of the bin) in the Aus ECU. Do you know of any one else in Australia using the Quarter Horse with your XDF and ADX.

I think I will get a few careful cruising miles on it, then try the DEKAs again, don't want to risk hosing down the bores straight up.

Happy New Year

Cheers Richard.

cool progress is progress

yes there is a couple gents using the a9l2 on their aussie ecus the hardware is the same, how plentiful are those ecus out there as in what is the typical US price for a good one? The US foxbody ecus are very scarce as usually sell for $300-$400 these days.

I guess there would be a supply of EEC-IV box's around the wrecking yards. The EB and ED Falcon - Fairmont 5.0L was a pretty common car.
Most were 6cyl though. Alot of people over here do the EEC-V conversion from a EL -EF and AU falcons some even do series 2 AU with the coil packs.
I would be keen to know if our strategy was backwards compatible to yours. I do know if you use a TFI module (black) that comes with a MSD or Mallory dizzy you need to swap out to the original TFI (grey)
I haven't purchased one for a while. the last spare I got cost me $80.00 Aus. Never know when I will need one......
I could chase one down and send it over if you wanted to try it out.

Cheers Richard

yes its all the same hardware

the ccd and non-ccd module can be changed with the tfi and ccd switches

80AU is about $60 USD which is double what you can buy them for here locally when they are in the u-pull it yards

nah no need i try to stay away from the other ecu's these days

So I have sent the 60Lb injector back.
After some discussion with a tuner of later model Fords with the turbo Barra engine, he said the Deka can be very hard to get the idle right.
So I have got some Bosch 0 280 155 968 42Lb injectors. The math says they will be fine for my needs.
Have you used them before? If so can you help me out with the data to get it to a starting point.
The slopes and break point you have used?

Hi there
I had a look on the home page, there is listings for some Bosch injectors, I could not find data for the 44Lb 0 280 155 968
I did find some info on a website but that doesn't seem right.
tmp_28615-bosch-968-long-green-injector-parameters-1379511446.jpg

It tries to fire. I have tried adjusting the slopes/brakepoint etc, no joy!!!!
Obviously it is me, I am missing something or I some thing wrong.
I have upload my files, could have a quick look at my bin when you can

I would be happy to buy a starting tune from you if you think You would have one to suit my setup.

Thanks for all your help..
