Lower temp thermostat
I'm thinking about installing a cooler t-stat since I'm running about 204 when towing up grades. Fan clutch is engaging. She quickly cools off to 196 as soon as the load reduces. I am running a stock 195 degree t-stat and thinking about installing a 160 or 180. Stoplights and AC also get her up past 200 pretty quick. Any recommendations?

Re: Lower temp thermostat
thats too cold perfect temp is 212 as long as you stay below 224 your perfect
why would you possibly want it colder ?
arent you running e85?

Re: Lower temp thermostat
Yes I'm running E85. It just pulls better when the temps are below 200 and I have noticed it start to hesitate a little at and above 204f. The fast burn cylinder head may have something to do with it. I may have too much timing for those temps.
Another reason is the A/C blows colder when the engine bay temps are lower. We are seeing 100-105 temps in my area so every little bit helps.

Re: Lower temp thermostat
with e85 you have to get the coolant temp over 212
if its hesitating you have other problems
insulate the ac lines

Re: Lower temp thermostat
Well I opened a can of worms on this one. Seems like you want higher temps for better efficiency & h2o evaporation but the issue is keeping the intake temps low. This all aluminum intake heat saturates pretty quickly. FN2230 is stock. My primary spark table is the stock MPG table + 6 degrees (removed the +4 from WOT adder). I think this explains the noticeable drop in performance when temps go up.

Re: Lower temp thermostat
I am running the stock tune and I left most everything stock except what I explained above and Injector slope/VE. This is how ford setup fn2230 for the 4.9 EFI fast burn heads.

Re: Lower temp thermostat
I'm not opposed to doing what you mentioned above and in the timing write up, But some of the functions are not listed in the XDF so I assumed speed density is just a different beast.
