Where to put MAF

Unread post by Fasterthangas »

I just finished the cold side of my turbo install and need advice where to place the slot maf. There's not much in the way of straight pipe and there's plenty of bends.

Straight section in the tube that goes from the intercooler to the throttle body is your best bet. With the curves in front of it, you would probably benefit from an air straightener but you would have to cut the pipe apart to install the straightener so you would need to weld it or add another coupler along with adding a bead to each of the pipes where you cut it. I would try to get by without a straightener so you dont need to cut your pipes. I made my own so I installed it before welding.

In the third pic down from the top; that straight section is 6" long. That's probably the only place to put it. I have a weld on flange for the maf. Being that section of pipe is pretty vertical; how should I position the maf or does it matter?
Thanks!

you can position the maf any way you want but look at the way the air is going to flow and try to position the maf to catch as much air as possible. With that said, in my opinion the optimal place would be right where the other pipe runs next to it so you cant use the optimal position. I think anywhere in that 6 inch pipe would be fine but wait to see if anyone else chimes in. Not a fan of where that bov is in relation to the maf.. You might get some weird readings with them being so close. My bov is really close to the turbo on the other side of the intercooler.

Hopefully the bov position doesn't effect anything. This is my first turbo build so I have a lot to learn.

I built probably 20 or so turbo mustangs before I finally built one for myself. When it came time to build mine we already worked out all of the kinks with other cars. Hopefully it doesnt affect the maf.

I bought a kit from CG Fabrication. He's been doing it for 26 years so I'm hoping he knows best by now. LOL.
Caleb is a great guy to deal with and his welding and kit fitment is top notch. I actually did dual wastegates to keep boost creep in check.
