I've always thought that a simple PCB with pins and a socket. Could adapt for any standard EEPROM. We could even build in a header for programming/tune switching on the fly. This could eliminate the need for a xilinx chip.

Good thinking if it can be done efloth. Are you talking about trying to write to the eeciv like writing to the eecv? I didn't think it was possible since eeciv doesn't have a data like connection..

I thought EEC-IV used an EPROM (not really writeable) chip vs EEC-V used an EEPROM (readily writeable) chip and that's what's made the EEC-V flash tuning compatible whereas the EEC-IV you basically have to bypass the internal EPROM by inserting an F3 EEPROM chip.

Most EEC-IV have Erasable Programable Read Only Memory(EPROM) with Ultra Violet ligth erasable.
Some were One Time Programed(OTP).
And EEC-V have EEPROM, electrically erasable programable read only memory.

The point I am making is referring the weird pin out of the EEC-IV PROM/EPROM. It could be removed and adapted using a small PCB with pins soldered in it's place that routes to a standard pin out dip socket. This would be an extremely cheap part and would only require readily available EEPROMS.

The Ford memory chips are custom and use eight parallel bidirectional tri-state address/data lines (typically called the MBus) and three asynchronous output control signals to determine the direction of the transfer, the type of data transferred (address, instruction, or data) and timing of the transfer on the Mbus. These memory chips are not available for the public to buy and is why the J3 devices use programmable gate array devices to interface a standard ROM chip with the EEC.

I found a picture of a custom Eprom in an A9L I tried to figure out who it came from but couldn't find anyone that claimed it. The picture was on a ECU rebuilders website in an area talking about capacitor replacement. Obviously this is nothing as cool as a Quarterhorse clone, no data logging and such, but looks like an Eprom emulator. I imagine this was created to clone the A9L by installing it into other GUFX EECs. I'm guessing the 3 contacts on the edge is the interface used to load the BIN into it. I found another very crude looking creation also picuters atached.

Top photo was a Moates product not available to the public. I managed to purchase 8 of them last year. A custom Burn2 was also required to program them.
