Exhaust driven PCV thoughts..

For anything machine shop / speed shop or engine specific. More technical than the range but not quite tuning specific.

Exhaust driven PCV thoughts..

Unread post by 034v »

5.0L SBF, single turbo, PCV valve has a check between plenum manifold vacuum source and sealed catch can on firewall. Valve is in OE location.

Valve cover needs fresh air suction or some type of draw, and turbo has a screened setup. Inlet volute is the anti-surge housing so drawing there is not going to cut it.

Back in the day, I would see the downpipe tapped with a steel line and suction of the exhaust would create the venturi-effect needed for crankcase evacuation when PCV valve is closed.

I've seen "taps" online for this but I could make my own if I have solid info on someone pulling it off here.

LMK what you know.

Thanks

Do you get much oil in that catch can? Just curious because I don’t have one in that line on my car.

I have the other side going from valve cover to turbo inlet with a check valve inline and it seems to work well. When your making boost it should be sucking pretty good

Not really. Not nearly as much as the turbo 4v does. I'm thinking best bet is to run a spacer on the inlet until I get the A/C line redone.
