'07 Town Car V10 Swap?

For all other non specifically listed ECU tuning. This would include can-bus ecu's such as powerpc copperhead tricore and siemens ecus. As well as GM, Dodge or any aftermarket controller tuning etc...

'07 Town Car V10 Swap?

Unread post by Sevensecondsuv »

I have an '07 Town Car that just got retired from daily driving service. I also have a line on a 2v V10 out of an excursion for cheap. I've always wanted to V10 swap one of these cars. I realize there's far better options to make horsepower, but this would be more about the feeling of slinging the big heavy Lincoln around effortlessly with minimal throttle inputs. Having driven trucks and Excursions with the V10, I think it would excel in this role.

Obviously bolting it in place of the 4.6 would be a fairly straightforward affair, save for some clearance issues with the brake booster, HVAC box, and throttle elbow. Those are all solvable, however. What I'm not sure of is the computer. What I do know about the '05+ stuff is that the ECU is more or less married to every other component in the car via can-bus. So I don't think swapping the ECU for one out of a truck would work.

Is it possible to add outputs for 2 more injectors, coils, and change firing order, etc via a tune to the stock ECU? Or would I be looking at a real science project swapping hardware?

OK.....The can-bus trucks were running 3v V10s by then, so I guess that's what I'm looking for as a donor. Those aren't cheap yet like the 2v donors.....

That's interesting that you can just swap ECUs. That's the opposite of everything else I've read about the '05+ can-bus Fords. I've seen a few threads where people tried and ended up having to swap in the cluster, fuel pump driver, trans, rear axle, entire harness, radio, etc just to get it to start. I'm assuming you'd have to flash the truck's computer with the town car VIN and whatnot and that's what would allow it to work in the town car chassis?

Using the 3v truck ECU would probably also force me to use a 5R110 trans vs the 4R75E that's in the car. I guess that'd be a pretty nice upgrade - if it fit inside the trans tunnel anyways.

What about the earlier cars? I'm guessing an 03/04 Town Car ECU isn't going to run a V10 either. Will a V10 truck ECU run a 4R70?

No people are ignorant they dont understand its just a calculator it does only what you tell it. You never have to swap wiring or hardware or any of that crap. Thats probably the same idiots that recommend replacing entire harnesses for cobra and lightning engine swaps. Dont believe any of that crap you hear.

5r is a downgrade to the 4r

yeah an earlier v10 truck ecu can do both but it would require the tasc strategy be broken out significantly.

Use a 2005-2008 V10 2v PCM from a van, older and it's EEC-V, newer and it uses a different CAN bus protocol.

Are you saying an 05-08 van PCM is both EEC-V and CAN bus? Does the CAN protocol match the 07 town car? Finally, does it have a cable or electronic throttle?

I thought the vans all had 4 spds until they finally got the 6R around 10 years ago.

Before the 6R came the Torqshift 6. Pretty much the same transmission, just the older version. It was one of the first derivatives of the 6 speed automatic.
