460 conversion to Mass Air

Unread postby 91bird » Wed Oct 30, 2013 4:15 pm

Hi,

I have a 1995 F350 with a 460 I'm wanting to convert to Mass Air. I need to find a computer that controls the E4OD, is Mass air, and has a definition available to tune it. I'm also assuming staying with EEC-IV would be the easiest swap.

Sailorbobs definitions has: AHACB - covers a variety of trucks, e.g. VEX1, WAY1. HOG0. What are all the compatible catch codes for the AHACB strategy? Is there a definition for the AHACA?

From other resesarch I've found but unconfirmed:
AKC0 - 5.8L - F8TF-12A650-NA (MAF conversion kit EEC) - AHACA
BIO0 - 5.8L - F5TF-12A650-BYA (stock 94-95 MAF 5.8L/E4OD) -AHACA
MOB1.................................................................. -AHACA

VEX1 - 5.0L - F5TF-12A650-HB (stock 94-95 MAF 5.0L/E4OD) - AHACB
WAY1 - 5.0L - F5TF-12A650-JB (stock 94-95 MAF 5.0L/E4OD) -AHACB
HOG0................................................................. -AHACB

Can someome fill in the part numbers for BIO0 and HOG0?

What trucks did all these computers come in? I assume the 5.0L came in the F150, maybe F250?

Has anyone successfully reprogrammed the transmission tables to the same as what was in the speed density computer that came with the 460? I would definately need help with this part.

there is no difference between sd and maf trans control

just snatch an ahacb ecu and swap her in

I can not speak for the vex1 or the others but my inital research for my 460 maf conversion came up with a year break difference between the way1 and hog0. There is a diode that was moved from the transmission to the ecu after 94. I am unsure of its purpose but for my 97, I opted for the way1 as it is a 95 ecu and should have the diode in the right place. If anyone can shed some more light on this it would be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, the 5.8l (ACK0, BIO0) uses a different firing order. I think it can be changed in BE if needed tho. Physically changing the injector firing order isnt ideal, especially if an ecu uses two hegos. (way1 and hog0 are single hego)

Is your factory SD run on ALT0?
No. It doesn't have a hemi.

Also note, at least on way1 from alt0:

A BP sensor is NOT used. In this case, BP is inferred through calculations.
Two of the emission solenoids are pinned backwards and need to be swapped.
The HEGO needs to have a ground supplied. (way1 pinout doesn't have)
Pay careful attention to injector pinout. (my conversion kit was wrong on two pairs)
The a/c pink wire is not used.
For proper MAF calculations, do not reuse the ACT in the intake. Wire an IAT to the air box.

As I come up with more, I'll post the results.

Another addition:
The hego seems to be most acccurate if the orange wire is grounded (ie: spliced) into the grey/red that is at pin 46, rather than to a chassis ground. The gy/r is a common wire to a few different sensors.

I'm not sure what SD EEC is currently in the truck.

Do you have more information on the diode for the transmission? My truck is a 94 F350.

yeah more info on the diode

are you perhaps referring to the TCC solenoid?

In 95 on select vehicles henry changed over from a 1 ohm tcc to a 10 ohm tcc
all 96 and newer tcc solenoids should be 10 ohm

I know that applies to the 4r70w, not sure about the e4od

The 5.8 / 351w uses the same firing order as the 5.0 h.o., when i get a chance ill look in the bins for you

If your truck is a 94, I'd imagine a HOG0 may be best as it is also for the 94, if I have things straight.

Another addition: the kit I'm using supplies a maf sensor specified for the 95 5.0 but it is installed to a 80mm flange housing. When I initially modified the maf transfer, I did it wrong. 80÷70=1.1428571 as a multiplier. I changed that to an area calclation and came up with 1.3061089. The area calculation is much more accurate for the difference between the sizes. The beauty of using the eec matched maf sensor is that it SHOULD be that easy. As far as I know, the 5.0 commonly used the 70mm.

Combine that with changing the displacement and injector specs (the 460 uses 24# factory), and you've got a good start.

does that sound about right?
No. It doesn't have a hemi.

As for the tcc, my truck was a 97 factory SD OBD1 because its an "over 8500 gvw". I'd imagine the tcc change was an OBD2 thing. I don't recall which forum I found that little tidbit about the diode, but I decided it wasn't worth the gamble and sent back the HOG0 in exchange for a WAY1. As far as I can discern, it was a 94/95 thing. Even the kit supplier updated his offerings to accommodate. Somehow he was able to verify the difference.
