Gen 1 Lightning MAP

Unread postby Raymond_B » Sun Dec 20, 2015 3:06 pm

Hello, I've been searching the forum and noticed that others have been looking for a way around Ford's frequency based MAP sensors. I've been poking at the Lightning code for a while and never found any sort of function. So that led to me to try to come up with a voltage to frequency converter to run something like a GM 3 bar MAP. But I have also been looking at simply introducing a resistor to the ground of the MAP sensor to alter the MAP freq. output. I know this is far from ideal and is akin to the scaling of MAFs which used to be done when 5.0L Fox bodies didn't have a lot of aftermarket MAF support. But I think it would help Gen 1 Lightnings, because really there's not much aftermarket support for such a small amount of vehicles.

Anyway I see some folks have tried a Diesel and MAP and possibly a 2.3 turbo coupe MAP. Do any of you guys have the freq. ranges on those?

Sadly it's not that easy, the Lightning PCM controls the E4OD trans. The only thing close is the SN95, but it is short one trans solenoid controller. Ligtning's are also also batch fired.

Edit: That's not to say there are no MAF conversions, but they are either bulky with add on PCMs or expensive or both. I was looking at an easier solution.

all you have to do is run 4 wires for the maf and swap in an ahacb ecu no problem

If you really wanted to upgrade you can toss an edis reluctor and cam sensor on it and swap in a 99-04 ecu

That's certainly one way to accomplish it. ahacb is VEX1, WAY1, etc right? It is also sequential injection correct? I was hoping to source in a boosted vehicle's MAP or simply scale the stock setup, but I guess that's a dead end road.
