Tuning laptop recommendation

Unread post by red5.0fogger »

Are any of the Chromebook or cheapy laptops a go or no go for running tunerproRT with quarterhorse? I'm not tech savvy so idk if a Chromebook would work or not?
Let me know of what you like or to avoid.
Thanks.

You can run it on a tablet. i use a laptop that is at least 10 years old and it has no problems at all. AFAIK, Tunerpro can run on a potato.

Tunerpro needs at least Windows 7 to run the latest build. I would not buy a chromebook as installing Windows on one is not easy. Just get a basic laptop with a SSD and you will be happy. Requirements are minimal. I am also running on a laptop that is 10 years old.

I am also running an ssd and would recommend one. It doesn't even need to be big. I have a 128gb drive and its 50% full. There are tons of tunes saved to it and it still has a lot of space. .

One key item is battery life. When trying to capture drives, etc, it can be real frustrating if battery only lasts 15 minutes.

Either a backlit keyboard or an overhead keyboard light to see the keys which my current hp elitebook has is very nice. Numerous usb ports are a must for me. I have 3 on this one and at times all 3 are tied up.

On the battery issue: I went down to walmart an picked up a small $10 inverter so I could keep the laptop charged while driving. This one has a noisy fan but it works well for the money.

I like my tough-book machine because its basic and durable. Battery life is good along with the anti-glare screen makes its friendly for long day cruises. A cheap used one can be used as a hobbyists throw away or a more current model if desired for all around uses.

Yes the toughbook was nice. I had one for work a few years back. My current work one is a dell tablet, not so great.

I tried a fairly new laptop (14 months old?) It would not talk to the QH. It will see a flash drive and those work fine. when i plugged in the QH it chirped like it should but does not connect. Could I be missing a driver or something? I also tried device manager to see what com port its on but It won't even show me com ports in there. I read some com ports have too high a number like com 10 and some programs don't like that but lol It won't show me any, like a stuck up babe, haha. Could a firewall do that?
