A9L Adaptation to Stroker

Unread postby a204189 » Fri May 04, 2018 12:35 pm

We have recently acquired a 363 shortblock and considering an E303 or F303 cam for an NA application.

If we use 42lb injectors with a properly matched/calibrated MAF -AND- use a stock OEM A9L ECU, will the computer adapt to new displacement and work fine ??

Using 42# injectors without tuning the stock A9L will probably result in starting issues. The ECU will still think it has 19# injectors and add way too much fuel at start up.

Perhaps 42# is on the heavy side, but maybe a 36# would be more appropriate...again, mated to a calibrated MAF. My earlier thought was the OEM ECU would generate the same pulse width as a 19# injector and the increased injector size will increase fuel for the additional cubes.

But as I think about this a little more, some combination "may" work OK as long as system is in Closed loop, where the ECU still references sensors. The larger issue that I hadn't considered is when the system goes OPEN LOOP... where sensor feedback it not referenced and the ECU values/pointers are fixed. Hence, the necessity for some type of OEM ECU augmentation such as a Chip, EEC, 3rd party ECU, etc.

If my understanding of this is in error or perhaps not clear, I do not mind feed or critique.

you can prob get by running a cal'd maf and the 42s and be ok, many have done it many have not, just depends on what your willing to live with

not much difference between 42s and 36s

the ecu doesn't have any set PW, the pw is calculated from airmass from the maf, thats how calibrated mafs work all the details are on the homepage

its only $250 for a moates QH and you can simply plug in and change any value you want. If you can't afford a $250 piece of hardware to get the engine running properly you should probably give up motorsports
