Tell me Im dialed in and good enough for Gov’t work...

Unread postby 89FiveOh » Thu Mar 01, 2018 12:05 pm

Hello,
Am I finally done dialing in fuel? In closed loop, my KAM’s vary from 1.02 to 0.98 throughout the rpm range at part throttle driving.. I havnt been able to install my wideband yet, just using the NB’s. Great throttle response and idle/part throttle is smooth as silk. Even got my spark at idle to stay rock solid at 18*, where as it used to bounce from 17-26* at idle.

I understand how IMPORTANT fueling is before any dialing in of the MAF curve is now. What a difference it has made. I have my 270/274 .588 lift cam on 110 easily propelling my car with just letting off the clutch with NO THROTTLE help. I have accomplished stock-like driveability with AFR’s and a custom cam, and I be stoked!!!

On to playing with the spark a lil bit to find some hidden power and waiting on the WB installation to tie the tune all together. Not sure of the accuracy, but the EA datalogs ate showing me in the 340/360 hp/tq range. Its not exact, but I’ll take 300 hp with gobs of down low torque any day.

I also plan on writing a procedure for the rookies by documenting my tuning experience of do’s and dont’s that I have learned through this endeavor. More on layman’s terms so one who is totally clueless, might be able to interpret the exquisite writeups on this site.

One thing I must say, if one is a perfectionist, there will definitely be some gray hairs emerge when trying to learn this tuning stuff, as I have found, if you find a good running setup that works for you, stick with it cause every time you try to make it more precise, you never will be satisfied! lol

thanks

sounds about right to me, if you use tunerpro i have an automatically populating fuel error histogram for both the injectors and the maf, if both of those are near 1 then you know your dialed in

Nah, Im using Binary Editor with the QH. However, I like everything I read about that Tunerpro software. Just a side note, my maf curve was dialed in by adding/subtracting exactly 1 from each point on the xfer until I got it dialed in. Took a really long time to accomplish this but my OCD wouldnt have it any other way! Hehehe. And with any changes I made, Id have to start over and over again but, man, what a payoff!!

damn 1 kg/hr per iteration would take forever, why not just calc the error and apply it?

that sounds like a bunch of extra useless time consuming effort for no gain

No gain? LOL. To you it may be useless, to me, I now have stock-like driveability and a headfull of useless knowlege as you suggest.
I dont take it personally tho, when I get to the point where I can write code and figure how to manipulate the ECU as you have, then maybe will I see that from point A to point B is only a multiple away instead of one iteration at a time.

lol, No gain....SMH

OH WELL, on I go on my journey takin baby steps at a time on my quest to find what is a waste of time and what isnt.

thanks for your insight nonetheless

yea no prob, but all you have to do is hold a stable mafv, let the narrowband correct and then apply the correction, if you do it correctly the error should return 0 correction, it literally only takes 10 seconds lol

I sure ‘ppreciate it. Man, if only the fuel writeup was so straight forward.

Step 1 HOLD MAFV until KAMS mature in Closed Loop
Step 2 MULTIPLY the KAM correction by the kg/hr at that voltage
Step 3 YOURE DONE

lol

not kam's, kam's take forever to update, about a tank of fuel to get any useable data

the lambse's will tell you where its at much faster, either way just account for both of them and its no problem

Hey 89FiveOh, I would be interested to know what you consider was the biggest influence to stabilise your spark to that extent?
