New Engine - high Idle

Unread postby FAT245 » Tue Nov 19, 2013 6:36 am

I recently put a new motor together and I am struggling to get its idle under 900-1000RPM.
At First I thought it was a Vac Leak but it does not appear to be so.

If the engine was to idle WITHOUT the intake pipe connected, it will idle at its lowest possible to how i have set the TB Stop.
But as soon as I connect the Intake pipe, the RPM's increase and I cannot control them.

Do you have any ideas?

by intake pipe are you referring to the idle air control valve?

if u unplug the isc youll see real quick if the engine is getting too much air

have u tried backing down the throttle stop?

I think you guys call it the Power pipe?

MAF to TB.

If i disconnect the ISC there is no change to the idle.

then you need to close the throttle body stop

regardless the engine is getting too much air

Turns out the backfire I had, blew out the ISC/IAC.

Replaced it with a new one and it is all sweet.
One thing i am trying to solve now is a real rough idle.

I have 236/242 .568/.570 109LSA Camshaft
When at Idle, the EEC is throwing in fuel and then pulling it out again and my idle timing is going crazy.

I followed your Idle Air 101 and have got the idle smoother but after sitting i traffic for half an hour or more, it fuels up but cruises fine!
Been thinking of trying to force OL at idle?

At idle, my ECU seems to be referencing my MBT Table and completely ignoring the CT Spark vs RPM Function.
I don't have the ability to log Spark Source either,

I have the ISCFLG Payload, That is at 1 which i believe is RPM Control when it is idling.
Is the other Flag APT?

Yes

apt= at part throttle
-1=ct
0=pt
1=wot

If the idle flag is set then the closed throttle flag must be as well

Are you trying to change the idle spark?

yes,

I had to change the MBT Table to lower the spark on idle.

Right now I am tryng to get my head around how the ECU Commands Spark at idle.

APT is at -1 and the RPM Control Flag is set at idle

it uses whats called feedback spark

mbt spark is calculated and then the ecu tries to target the feedback spark desired torque which is the scalar SPK_LOAD_RES
a lower value will INCREASE idle spark, and a higher value will DECREASE idle spark,
you can increase this scalar to reduce idle spark, i usually try to stay between 0 and 1.0

the ecu then adds and subtracts spark based on the feedback_spark_gain scalar to control how much it adjusts per loop,
adding timing as rpms are low and pulling as its higher

i guess i should add that to the timing write up

Will those scalars still be viable in an EDIS EEC?
