tweecer Caledit

Unread postby drumpro80 » Mon Jul 10, 2017 3:45 pm

Hi all, new to the forum. Not sure if I should put this here or in the fox body section. I am using a Tweecer to tune my 89 mustang. I installed a turbo kit. I have the WOT and basic changes put in, but, I have a MAJOR drivability issue. The second I let off the throttle if coming to a stop, it goes full rich, (around 9.8 to 10.4), which causes it to load up and cut out and either die or I have to give it throttle. Once it goes Rich, it throws itself full lean to try to correct. If I am driving and let off, it does the same thing, then goes lean, then I give it fuel and it sputters until it balances out again. Please help! Thank you in advance MY set up, (for the most part) is on the right in my vehicle description

sounds like its venting metered air

make sure the bov is as close to the turbo discharge as possible and the maf is in the middle of the straightest length of pipe from the IC to the TB

with the on3 kit, the bov is in a U pipe, right before the intercooler, The Maf is a draw thru set up. WOT it works great, its just regular driving that is suffering horribly

what's the my problem? The piping goes out of the Turbo, straight down to a U shaped pipe with the flange on it for the BOV to mount. then the U goes into the ic. Multiple guys run these as draw thru. And a 90mm maf is recommended. (and the charge piping is only 3 inch. seemed strange to scale up almost an inch then back down almost an inch before going into the tb. driving at a constant speed, say, 40 mph...afr is 14.6 to 15.3. under normal driving. That is why I didn't think it was unmetered air. Maybe I'm wrong?

if your in a draw through your maf is on the inlet side of the turbo

are you saying your in a blow thru and your maf is correctly located in the discharge pipe between the ic and tb ?

it is a draw through. inlet side of the turbo. I was saying if I do a blow trough it is a 90mm, the charge pipe is only 3". so, My Maf is almost an inch larger, meaning the charge pipe would then go from 3 to 4 and back to 3 inch. I figured that would cause issues in the metering. I will have to buy adapters for each side of the maf if I move it to charge side or blow through.

you definitely dont want to do that

best bet would be to upgrade to a pmas hpxe slot maf and toss it in there

Kind of what I was thinking. that's on pause for now, testing a different computer tomorrow along with compression tests on 2 cylinders. Was triple checking everything tonight, and used a infared thermometer only to find cold cylinders. (270 degrees in comparison to the other 6 being @480). but, once I figure this issue out, then I'll try a slot maf. I had considered that before. seems the draw through is a bad deal and causing the drivability issue.

draw through should only be utilized when theres no possible way to go otherwise

you can't have a bov mounted after the maf in any setup otherwise you'll vent metered air

I mean, we had verified that the BOV is not hanging open, so, I'm unsure if it's letting anything in. AFR is right around 14.9 while driving. it goes rich under boost as it should, but, like I said, WOT seems to be okay, but, the second you let off the throttle...full rich. But, I do agree I probably need to swap it to blow through after hearing it from you guys, it just solidifies what I was thinking. thanks for the help guys

the bov should only open on decel and will cause it to run rich dumping metered air just as you described

for the time being you should enable dfso so it doesnt go rich
