Cooper Ultra Touring CS5 - Review / 03 Marauder

Unread postby decipha » Tue Jun 06, 2017 2:09 am

I just ordered a set of Cooper CS5 Ultra Touring tires for my 2003 marauder, today in the rain she got a bit squirrely and went off the side of the interstate off ramp into open grass, I'm pretty sure I have some front end issues as well that probably didn't help any and a full front end inspection and alignment are in order. As for the Marauder specific, I have to replace the abs module anyway with a marquis unit so the non staggered wheel size as compared to stock wont cause the abs traction control to engage, not that it would anyway as this is a non t/a 03 although it does have the wiring for the TA switch present even bolted to the trim.

stock is 235/50/18 fronts and 245/55/18 rear, I'm upgrading to 255/60/18 all the way around.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't rub and no unforeseen issues, tires should be in next week, hopefully by the following week I can swap them on, I'll post an initial review and another after a few weeks.

Hopefully the car is fine. Why don't you go a little wider in the rear though? Seems like 245/60s are gonna look like innertubes with all that sidewall.

yea the car is fine, it just needs an alignment, its been needing it before i bought it

the objective is to get away from the stock staggered setup and keep them all the same size for simplicity and rotatability, and Id like the car to sit level rather than have a slight rake to it. My friend mike just put same size tires all around his 04 Marauder, not only did it fix the rake the car drives significantly better.

The marauders are known to eat the middle of the rear tires on even the stock size, those who go wider usually have it even worse. This car isnt fast by a long shot, it prob couldnt even get out the 15s and I run it detuned for 87 octane, in which is only puts down between 215-225rwhp depending upon heat soak.

yea im hoping the sidewall blends into the body and isnt an eye sore, thats the closest size tire cooper makes to stock so I went with it, only 3.5% larger than the stock rear tire so i think it'll be ok

A friend of a friend put them on today, he ripped me off charging $20 per mount and balance each tire the bastard, last time i ever ask them for anything, and i was gonna be nice and fix his computer on his alignment machine, his loss

anyway, the car runs great, the tires feel excellent they grip and do everything you can ask of a cruising tire. Oh and most importantly they bolted right on, I dont have any rubbing issues or anything even at full tilt

Another oddity, whem i strapped the car down and spun her up to dial in the speedo I actually had to increase it, I took the stock value of 723 and settled on 730 to get the speedo +/- 0.1 mph at an 85 mph cruise

now im curious how far off the stock setup was, i never bothered to check it cuz its all stock and youd figure that would be close but apparently not

initial results are all positive, ill post more after i get some miles on them

I have to compare my GPS to the mph payload I made and adjust the error to accommodate different tires, and even then I'm at the mercy of the VSS only being accurate to every half a mph. The needle is a lost cause.

on the 99+ digital clusters the speedo is read over scp from the ecu, my gauge matches my vsbar perfectly, i dialed in nvbase while i was at it too and they are dead on
