Ford PCM gt40 marine engine

Unread postby rusty_lawrence » Thu Jul 26, 2018 10:53 am

My 2001 Super Air Nautique has a FORD 351W PCM Marine GT40 engine. It's speed density and has the same block as the 93-95 lightning. Uses C1A1 hardware with the attached bin. Can this easily me tuned? or would it require significant research?

This wouldnt be an immediate project. I dont know how much more life my engine has, but i like the idea of putting a stroker crate engine in it when it comes time. More torque would be better for the water sports we do.

also here's another bin from the earlier models with the same setup... PCM changed the config in the later models, but all the other spec are the same

If no definition already exists, then the bin needs to be disassembled, understood and a defintion written.

help me with the next layer of details on this. no mass air, no transmission, no emissions. if i did a cam change, it would be one with comparable specs and vacuum. the motor comes stock with 24# injections, can't see pegging those out. we're talking about more displacement and remapping the fuel. i think this would be an abbreviated definition, no?

Edit:. Oh and no o2 sensor either

Sure a def could contain less than the total number of Scalars, Functions and Tables.

The challenging part is the disassembly and understanding.

Any non standard cam spec will change the volumetric efficiency of the engine in some way. So speed density tune will need adjusting for fuel and spark. Yes capacity will require changes as well.

Path of least resistance... I don't know how to disassemble. Maybe I need to read about megasquirt if I do this project.

Still researching. Is there a good reference webpage to see what mature definitions are out there for speed density? I could change the computer and pinout. I even found and o2 kit to implement closed loop strategy.

hey rusty we can try running a lightning speed density strat on it, its on the homepage if you want to try

I'd have to change the computer for that, right? I see EFI-SD4X on your page, is that the right one? I thought LHBL0 was the popular one.

two questions...
is there a resource i can use to see what hardware is compatible with that EFI-SD4X?
Is it out of the question to hire someone to write a definition for the existing 300m? There might be a niche market among boat owners to take advantage.
