Slot MAF Meter Discussion

Unread postby JETFAST » Thu Nov 19, 2020 5:23 pm

I have been doing a little research on the factory ford slot sensors. I ordered FORD MOTORCRAFT PN # AFLS-165(BR3Z-12B579-A on the box) and a (BR31-12B579-AA inside the box). interchangeable any difference? This sensor looks to fit various ford engines ranging from 1.8L -6.8L threw 2010-2018 and is only a 4 wire plug.

The next sensor I purchased is FMC PN# AFLS-133 (4G7Z-12B579-AB on the box) and a (4G7V-12B579-AA in the box.) this is a 6 wire sensor that came with the 2005-2010 5.4 SC mustang and GT's.

the sensors are different in wires and the shape of the "slot Head" with the 4 wire having a radius curve on the back edge, and the 6 wire is square.

How many different slots meters has ford introduced? Are there significant differences in the operation range? My understanding as it seems, pn# AFLS-165 4 wire maf is mostly a "one size fit's all" type sensor for the more basic range of operation. And pn# AFLS-133 (5.4 SC specific) with a significant change in the unit' price, shape, and 6 wire, in comparison to the 4 wire.

Are there any other factory slot meters type differences to make note of?

Just trying to understand the slot meters better than not.

I plan on using the pn# AFLS-133 on a SC 357 Windsor.

any and all thoughts on this subject, are appreciated. TIA

afaik they are all the same

6 wire has two for the iat

they dont function any different than the older tonsil stue just read from the central area of the pipe making them more accurate and less likely to pick up turbulence

The multifunction air flow sensor. AKA "The Weather Station"

this sensor has BARO and humidity temp sensors. I first saw this sensor on a chevy diesel 2012 and was like wtf. has two maf sesnors. after looking into the wiring, GM incorporated this sensor in front of the typical frequency slot maf. by doing so, the iat sensor in the maf became charge temp of the turbo, and the new 8 wire sensor (only using pins #5=12v+, #7 = eng ground, #8 = humidity air temp IAT #1) up stream of maf, Humidity bulb became IAT 1.

From what I have gathered, and understand about this sensor, it was incorporated on gm diesels in 2012 to further increase fuel efficiency the NOX exhaust gas analyzer could not reach for epa regs.

this sensor is now used on all late model GM's as a Multifunction Air/temp Sensor" and now standard MAF sensor on all current GM applications 2014-2022.

I have not been able to find the hitach pn# but the most current part number for this 8 wire sensor i could find is:

MAF SENSOR: GM#23262344 / ACD#23262344

8 WIRE PLUG: GM#84677313 / ACD#84677313

8 WIRE MAF PIN OUT:

 Pin 1 – Signal, IAT 1
 Pin 2 – +5V Reference
 Pin 3 – Low Reference
 Pin 4 – Signal, BARO (TIAP)
 Pin 5 – Ignition, +12V
 Pin 6 – Signal, MAF
 Pin 7 – Ground, Chassis
 Pin 8 – Signal, Humidity (duty cycle – %) and IAT 2 (frequency – Hz)
