2.3 Turbo T4MO

Unread postby lugbolt » Mon May 25, 2020 1:15 pm

I just picked up a 93 coupe, 2.3 turbo from a turbocoupe. LA3 computer. All mostly stock except the air filter on the vam and a 3" exhaust. Runs fine, gets about 28mpg. The VAM system sucks based on my experience in the past. I'm thinking way ahead at the moment--no plan set in stone, but just wondering. Will a T4MO ecu run it with a maf? What kind of maf are you guys using? Lastly, what about injectors? I know the stock 36 lb injectors are low impedance and the T4MO will want to see high impedance. Just swap to some Siemens-Deka 80's or what? Not planning on making a ton of power, maybe 300 at the most since this thing still has the stock pistons and rods in it, but if the need ever arose to have to rebuild, I'd put something better in it (crower/CP) and then let it breathe. BTW it's a daily driver if that matters any. I was thinking that the T4MO would work for EDIS or coil near plug, won't it?

the cbaza ecu will work, there was a member years ago who did one

any maf will do but might as well get a stock slot sensor

Thanks, gives me something to think about.

I assume the slot style sensor would be something like a 05+ mustang sensor? Not familiar with them.

That's what I used in my 2.5 turbo. I used 80 lb inj, E85, but I used the stock C1A1 computer, which I don't recommend. I'd be curious to see how to set that pcm up to work with a 4 cyl. Decipha, can you list out some of the major things needing changed? I assume using one O2 and assigning 1,2.3,4 to it is part of it. Curious how the crank and cam pick up would work? Thanks.

best bet is to get a 99-03 focus donor
simply slap the 99-03 harness, ecu, crank trigger, cam sensor and all on her.

Significantly better off with edis over a distributor and dis.

but yeah cbaza works fine if u use dis. Simply set it for a 4 cyl all the details are on the homepage for ignition swaps.

Forgive my ignorance.

Is the Focus stuff not a Zetec 4 cyl? Is it not completely different than the Lima 2.3 (SVO/Merkur/turbocoupe)?

Next question. I got to chatting with a guy a month or so ago about this while I was laid up and they were saying that the slot maf doesn't work well in a blow through, and certainly not in 2.5" piping. Didn't make any sense, seeing that it's gotta be tuned anyway? Just reduce the flow to compensate for the smaller dia piping? This car's already got a complete front intercooler setup that works great and does not leak one bit. All 2.5" tubing.

Just thinking on this stuff.

the focus is a zetec

yes its different but that doesnt make any difference.

Ive done several hundred slot mafs in blow through and never a problem. Pipe size is irrelevant.
