FRPS logging with return fuel

Unread postby Turbo4V » Mon Oct 12, 2020 8:40 am

I'm running a return fuel system that keeps the FPDM and FRPS. The FPDM operates a relay to power the pump. So I have the RF_MODE patch enabled and the pumps operate fine. Problem is the FRPS signal does not seem to log. FIP_DELTA parameter displays a fixed value 39.699 and doesn't change.

After poking around for a while I found a scalar 'Default Injection Pressure Return' with that same value 39.699 psi.

The parameter comments say "when FP_MODE is set this is the pressure used for the compensation functions." I couldn't find a 'FP_MODE' but does the RF_MODE patch possibly have something to do with this? I thought that keeping the FRPS connected and functional would allow the pressure compensation functions to work and also log the FRPS signal (FIP_DELTA). It clearly isn't logging the actual FRPS signal, but does that mean I'm not getting pressure compensation as well? Any suggestions on how to get the FRPS signal (FIP_DELTA) to log properly?

You got it. You have to disable the rf_mode switch as the code disables the injector compensation when its enabled since a return style pump doesn't use a deltap reference.

The FP was a typo. I just corrected it.

And what will be the result of disabling RF_MODE in terms of how my return fuel works? Did I not really need to enable RF_MODE in the first place?

you should be good since your powering a relay from the fpdm so it still functions as stock

I disabled the RF_MODE switch, and you were correct it has no perceived negative effect on pump control operation. And it no longer displayed the scalar 'Default Injection Pressure Return' value 39.699 psi, but instead it now just displays a fixed value 39.00 constantly. After looking around some more I found 'RF_DPREF_CAL' scalar.

RF_DPREF_CAL.png

This appears to be the parameter that FIP_DELTA is now displaying in the dashboard. To confirm I changed the value from 39 to 40 in real time while monitoring and sure enough FIP_DELTA immediately changed to 40.

Sort of confused by why FIP_DELTA is streaming a scalar constant, and not the actual FRPS signal. Is there a different payload parameter I should be logging for the actual FRPS signal instead of FIP_DELTA?

No, you have the pumps disabled which disables it as well.

pump type and rfs typesel need to be set back to returnless

RFS_TYPESEL (all 3) are already set to 2. I haven't touched them. Should they be changed to some other value?

Can you clarify which setting is the "pump type" that I need to change back? I already changed RF_MODE switch to not patched previously.

I did a text search for "type" and only came up with RF_MODE and the three RFS_TYPESEL. The only other thing I changed was the RF_DC_CAL from 0.70000 to 0.99980. Could that be the problem? Seems like that would be important to keep for holding in the pump relay though.

I see in the "Tuning Tips and Methodology" write-up section there is supposed to be a "FP_TYPE_SEL" in the how-to write up for returnless to return w/o FPDM and FRPS, but I can't find it, so I don't how I would have been able to change it to anything other than stock.
