1/4 mile passes, warm or cold?

Unread postby Squishy » Sat Aug 13, 2016 11:45 am

Some guys push there car to the line, fire it up, burnout and make a pass, others drive it to the line, any advantage to one over the other?

Should get to the track this month or early next, and just wondering, I had always just drove to the line with the car already warm?

Opinions vary. I prefer warmed up, not hot. Cold engines wear far faster. Severely heat soaked intakes slow you down. You'll see a lot of trailered car guys driving around the pits to get the differential and tranny fluid warmed up some. If I can leave the line around 180F I am happy. She is plenty warmed up when I get to the other end of the track. :)

I also prefer it to be warm, but not hot/cold. I usually can't manage to keep it under operating temp though and most of my passes are made at 195*.

Good luck at the track Squishy. Make sure all your safety gear is up to snuff.
