I've been using DexCool in my truck, because, well, that's what it came with, and at 11 years old, I've never had the slightest trouble with it.

No Antifreeze will cool as good as water - the more antifreeze in the mix, the less efficient it is.

In my Cougar, I use Zerex G-05 (similar to or the same as the Ford gold coolant). Eventually, probably when (if) I put together a built motor for it, I will switch it over to G-05. I won't touch the green stuff. IMO, and based on things I've read over time, G-05 is one of the better, if not best, antifreezes out there.

your supposed to replace dex cool every 3 years

neglecting coolant changes is pretty common, my grandmas contour still had the factory green shit in it from 85 when my brother replaced it last year when the factory water pump went out, amazingly it still had a green tint to it with 400k miles on it

Dexcool has a real bad rep for not aging well. No doubt there will be exceptions. I have my customers with older cars dump it when I get the opportunity.

Reminds me of the first Dexcool cars (W bodies), and their plastic intake gaskets, which fail at around 80k due to degradation. It's always#3 or #6, between the runner and water passage.

I have never touched the dex cool stuff, I would always use the green stuff just because, well, just because. In my truck I use 100% green, no water. Have no problems, even in summer
