4R70W shudder?

Unread postby TonyPDX » Thu Oct 31, 2019 12:24 pm

Hey guys I am hoping someone has insight as why my transmission feels like it is shuddering at very low speeds when coming to a stop.
When I coast to a stop or let it creep along very slowly I get this pronounced shudder quite often, but it will stop if I put it in neutral or accelerate. It doesn’t do it when pulling away from a light either.

Any Ideas on where to look? It is not a horrible issue as I have been living with it for 15years but I would like to fix it.

Vehicle Specs:
1966 Bronco Supercharged 5.8L, 1998 4R70W, 1995 Mustang EEC w/ TwEECer (W4HO – CBAZA), 4.88 gears, 35

Thanks, Tony

I believe it is first gear, but I will data log the gear and pressure on my drive home today. Thanks for the reply!

a shudder in first gear is more than likely going to be mechanical

So, I did datalog my drive home and I noted the shudder really only occurs at ~6mph with zero throttle or near zero throttle... I tried to upload both the .csv file and the .DB file but the forum won't let me upload either one. I am not well versed in reading the transmission outputs like EPCPRES.

How do I upload a file that you can look at?

Thanks for your help with this, Tony

the forum rules tells you how to post them

a log is going to be pretty useless for any of this as anything in 1st gear is not going to be pressure related its going to be mechanical

Where would you start looking? It is very weird, to me, that it would do this at such a slow speed and load. It seemed like it must have been caused by the tune.

Thanks again, Tony

i dont see how unless something is big time screwy. In first gear there is no gear timing, the converter cannot physically lock and line pressure is not being used to hold the clutch since the tcc can't lock.

post your tune file and i'll take a look

do you have a Time to Delay Lock after 21 or similar? Also, what is the tune commanding in TP and VS for 2nd gear lock? Whats your Base and NV look like?
