tune check

Unread postby brewster » Sun Jun 23, 2019 4:43 pm

Attached is the tune I've been working with if you guys can take a peak at it. Running A9L2 with mechanical idle mod. It starts up cold fine and warms up good but I find the fueling isn't very stable. I think most parameters are entered correctly for injector info as per the injector data reference. Biggest issue atm is it doesn't want to warm start unless I floor it and then it doesn't want to idle unless I touch the throttle and help it along. Attached is a warm idle log, free rev log between a couple a imaf points and then a retry of starting warm. Thanks in advance for taking your time to check it out if doing so.

just one more of a warm start to idle. Whats the best way to lower idle rpm a bit as if I close the throttle screw any it messes it all up and doesn't want to re start or idle correctly. I ve also tried closing the throttle screw and resetting kams. also very shakey idle like its lean shaking even at stoich

No problem, I realised after that there was a tune review section. This fricken car is doing some funky stuff that is beyond me that's for sure. Even my last idle log the lambses are climbing all the way up to 1.250 etc. Unstable idle hunting etc. I'm missing something

you have some major hurdles to take care of first

1st your hegos are old, you need new brand new hegos in order to tune a vehicle correctly if your having fuel issues and more so since they have to be extremely accurate in order to dial in the injectors
2nd your odd injectors will require dialing in, what have you done to dial it in?
3rd you need to throw away that junk msd distributor and upgrade to a stock oem distributor

you have not cut back your cranking pw as detailed in the a9l2 write up nor did you adjust the spark table as described either

the warm start log was useless since it never got to warm stable operating conditions

the warm idle log looked perfect other than hego1 setting a fault and not being used

your fuel is all over the place and hego1 is stuck full rich. Verify first your not sucking fuel through the fuel pressure regulator vac port and then dial in the injectors. Impossible to tell anything useful about their flow from those logs but if I had to guess based on the little I could see I would estimate the high slope needs to be raised quite a bit and the breakpoint needs to be raised significantly.

Thanks for taking the time to check over things decipha

1) I never knew hegos could go bad over time as they only have about 2000k on them but are at least 5 years old and the car has sat a long time. I'll get some new ones, any brand specific better then the other ??

2) The injectors are out of a 2011 mustang from my under standing are ev14 style and are approx 34lb hr, I used to info off the injector settings reference on the homepage. I did put the low slope down quite a ways and obviously havent played with break point and offset much as I dont quite understand what pids would give me the info I need to be able to dial in slope, break point and offset. Will def do some more reading over and over on it when I can find the time.

3) the mad distributor I didnt realize until I recently read your blog on them and when I can get the coin together I'll change it out asap

4)didnt mess with crank pw much yet because it starts great all the way up until It got hot. I did play with it before in another bin but it didnt make a difference, possibly didnt adjust it enough.

5) is there a flag or way to tell when the ecu is stabilized fueling as I thought if the hegos are switching and lambse and kamrf are moving then it's in closed loop doing what it needs to do ?

6) how did u know that hego 1 is faulting and not being used, far as I seen there switching from lean to rich?

7) I'll take a look at mechanicals and make sure there isn't anything funky going on with the fuel press reg etc. Is just the low slope used at idle and how does a guy know how to adjust the break point between low and high slope. Thats something I havent clued in on yet not knowing which data could or would tell me what needs to be adjusted and when.
Really appreciate the feed back thanks again for taking 5he time to look it over. Oh also what would make the lambses climb like that commanding it lean, guessing hego 1 showing its rich if was trying to lean it out.
Also I never touched the spark table yet as I've been fighting with fuel atm. Figrued baby steps

the ntk hegos are best but if they are low km hegos they are probably fine I would leave them unless you blew a head gssket or burned oil through them etc...

if u have known injectors put their actual info in and dial in the maf, once u get the maf dialed in you can then use the fuel err histogram in tunerpro plotted over imaf and rpm to dial in the injectors if needed

you did not out the injector details in your info so i assumed they were generic. Its always best to give as much info as possible especially for a critical peripheral like injectors or maf.

just cuz its in closed loop fueling doesnt mean its stabilized. The engine has reached stabilized fueling when its been running at least 5 minutes at full operating temp and no throttle inputs.

you can see both lambses and kams are the exact same number and switching with hego2. Hego1 never switched lean it stayed >0.3 volts.

couple of idle logs, just curious if someone can take a look and tell me why its hunting for idle. The ipsibr i'm able to get at 0.00 if I open the throttle blade a little but then its revving way to high for an idle. It seems like the hegos are reporting back properly but I may be wrong. Whats the best method for lowering idle when using mechanical idle control, and why is this damn thing hunting.

Also here is the current bin, finally been able to get it to warm start since I messed with crank PW vs ECT

Here is the current warm idle log with the 30lb injector settings somewhat known. As well as the .bin. Engine starts great, idles way better with barely a hunt and runs well.

Ok here is the latest revision I've been messing with. All is well except I've noticed hego 1 is reporting rich at idle. If I touch the throttle and clear out the cylinders I can get it to report lean and switch but it eventually reports rich again. I checked the fuel press regulator vacuum source and it doesn't seem to be leaking. Guessing maybe the injectors might be a bit leaky from sitting for quite a few years, maybe have some varnish built up on them and there not sealing well? Or I guess its possible the hego its self might be pooched ?

Ugh this was idling great and I could blip the throttle no problem then I went for a drive and once I stopped at a stop sign it would richen up and stall. Re start would start, hunt and stall showing rich on wb. Had to play with throttle to keep it running.

Please check out this log and bin. I know I have a long way to go but I just want to confirm that the lambses are climbing while accelerating because I have to dial in preload? Lambse are super close while idle and cruise but add more load and they climb into the red. I don't understand though that when I look up PRLDSW and want to set it to 0 as it says in the instructions it only gives me and option to SET.
