New to Ford EFI. Need help and advices

Unread postby yoheer » Mon Sep 28, 2020 4:01 pm

Hi everybody. I'm a newibie here and need some help.
I want to tune my '03 navigator and my dad's '95 grand marquis. Theese are daily driven cars and I know ford cars pretty good and can service them. Everything except ford ecu.
But I know much better GM ECUs. I can tune and flash em.
I want to learn how to deal with ford ECUs.
I have some hadware:
-IDS VCM2
-ELM327 (MS/HS switch)
-allpro
-moates burn2
-tl866ii
-aldl obd1 cable
-different soldering stuff

I use Tunerpro.
As I said above I'm new to ford in programming.
Tell me, what hardware do I need for flashing.
How to get stock bins from my cars or where to find bins?
Where can I find right XDF files for both cars.
I really need help. Thnx in advance.
Sorry, if i've choosen incorrect forum branch for my topic.

Welcome to the board. Most of us use a Moates Quarterhorse for 87-04 fords but the ECU must have a J3 interface port to be used with the ecu.. The quarterhorse plugs into the ecu and allows you to read the stock tune and do real time tuning. If a tune does not exist that will work with your navigator ecu, you can contact Decipha about paying for a tune. You will need your ecu catch code to determine if there is a tune that is compatible with your navigator. I believe there is already a tune for your grand marquis but the same applies as above. You need the ecu codes from each vehicle to determine if there is a compatible tune out there. If not, youll need to either disassemble it yourself using a program liks SAD, or pay decipha.

i think the 03 navi uses a different housing than the conventional eec-v so wont be able to use quarterhorse but verify first by looking at the back of the ecu.

will need a quarterhorse for the 95

but yea youd have to be a premium member to get them crunched out

What about obd2 connected devices?
I know some tune shops use galetto or k-tag or smth from china and differend software.
There would be smth like HPC-312 EE0FA and ford part number on a Lincoln PCM.
Where I can download stock bin?
Is there is really no xdf anywhere for my ecus?
What else i can use for flashing instead of moates? Maybe some j2534 devices or smth else?
I disabled seat belt warning with just elm327 and forscan
I understand, that there are tuned bins for money somewhere.
For example I can get stock bin and xdf files for GM even on github. Is it not so with ford?
I need to start with something but cant make first step

I would think you should be able to use the vcm-2 to read and write the eec-v using pcmflash

you read the stock tune out the ecu

the xdf for your ecu's are publicly available just for premium members

disabling seat belt is a simple on/off switch that doesn't require flashing

the moates qh doesn't flash tunes it over-rides the tune on the ecu

only publicly available defs are the ones people have already paid to get developed

Read the getting started write up as all of yours questions have already been answered there.

Is there any freeware programs do read/flash with VCM2?
How to understand what strategy do I need? When I will get info from ECU sticker.
