Re: 2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10 Blown Head Gaskets

Head gaskets replaced and engine starts!

Any way, since this is an F53 chassis, i'd like to add an exteranl fuel pump for better flow/pressure and serviceability.

Any recommendations on a quality external fuel pump with adequate flow?

Re: 2000 Ford Triton 6.8L 2V Service Manual

I dont have "the tool", but i followed the sequence at 70in lbs, rotated the camshaft, then torqued to 89 in lbs (in sequence).

Apex, thanks for the tip. I'm gonna do that!

2000 Ford Triton 6.8L 2V Service Manual

I finally got the spark plug repair kit from Lock n Stitch.

Spark plug holes are now repaired on my reman'ed cylinder heads...

Anyway, I can't find a service manual for camshaft installation. I could wing it, but i'd much prefer the 2v manual. I have a 3v manual, but those don't have a balancer.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: 2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10 Blown Head Gaskets

I managed to find a Ford service pdf, i'd like to upload it for future reference for anyone else if possible.

Got the heads pulled, valves are fine. (At least, not bent)

The head gaskets were smoked. Literally.

The knock sensor and head temp sensor wires were melted... fingers crossed.

Any brand/model recommendations for a straight edge to check the block deck?

2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10 Blown Head Gaskets (NOW RUNNING!)

Did a compression test.

All cylinders had at best 10psi dry, & 10psi wet. The exception being cylinder 1 & 5, which had 50psi and 60psi respectively (wet & dry).

My problem is how to get to the timing chain cover.

I assume the fan bolt is left hand thread.

Any tips, tricks, and valve timing procedure would be appreciated.

2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10 Exhaust System

Since the catalytic converter and muffler are missing on the F53, obviously i need to reinstall them.

I'd like to get a generic cat if cheaper, but i dont know how to size it.

I'm considering supercharging the engine (some day), so i'd like to take a holistic approach to the exhaust system. "Tuning" if you will.

1) how close to the Y do i want the cat?
2) what size tubing for proper throughput?
3) exhaust manifold recommendations.
4) i'd like an efficient muffler. One that is high[er] performance, but as quiet as possible.

Re: 2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10

Correlate meaning, crank sensor and cam sensor data need to "make sense" to the PCM.

For instance, if the cam sensor indicated the intake valve was open for cylinder #1, but the crank sensor was indicating cylinder #1 was in compression and to fire.

I'm a pretty good technician and mechanic, but when it comes to PCM level control, i have no clue.

Will Forscan support the F53?

Re: 2000 Ford F53 6.8L V10

Cam and crank data is supposed to correlate?

If i open the PCM, would cap failure be obvious? I imagine i'd have to remove the cap's to test them... not gonna do that.

I need to clean grounds, and verify spark with starter fluid. If it won't fire, is it possible for crank timing to be off? (I mean, crank sensor timing reference)

Despite the injection issue, and if there's no fire, i could be mistaken about compression. I'll do a compression test.

Fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs, o2's, water pump and all fluids are standard for me to replace when i get a used vehicle... i'd like to see it run before i drop the tank.

Unfortunately, the vehicle is an hour away.
