Re: Loose valve seats (4V 4.6)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, the compression is only 1% low, or it's only showing 1% compression relative to other cylinders (effectively zero compression)?

Re: New Tune and recommendations on supporting mods

Edit: Decipha is correct, see his post below, boost does affect required spring pressure based on valve size

In theory, the extra pressure you have behind the intake valves should also be inside the combustion chamber on the front of the valves from the intake stroke.

Engine RPM, seat preload, and actual valve weight (and actually spring weight as well) and of course how much lift you are trying to achieve from cam selection are going to be the major factors contributing to valve float, not so much boost.

Also, belt slip might look like valve float at the top of the rpm, not sure if that's something you could be running into not knowing the full details of your setup.

If you are or think you're going to be running into valve float, look into beehive or conical springs. Probably a good idea to do this if and when you upgrade your valves anyway.

Re: 351C conversion parts found

The SBF bolt pattern would be out of a v6 (essex) mustang, not the GT. Pretty sure they can be built up the same as any 4r70 though.

Seems like a cool project, I wouldn't mind seeing how the transmission swap comes along.

Re: 03 Mach 1 severe bog

I would verify with mechanical fuel gauge to rule out frps, but if it's reading correctly at idle it wouldn't be my first suspicion. You could have voltage drop or just got a bad new pump. Are you using a fpdm? Also I don't remember if those have an in tank prv (suspect this the least). All are possible culprits.

Cheaper to test each one before replacing anything, I would see if you've got any other live data that might help.

I wonder if this works all the same for Ford stuff?

Re: No MAF reading on PCM EEC-IV

Nevermind, I just read the MAF 101 page. http://efidynotuning.com/maf101.htm

Still going to have to try to wrap my head around that, but that's definitely making more sense now.

Regardless, sounds like I've got a bad cap that is causing bad readings. Will either order new caps or a used EEC, probably just the EEC for the sake of getting this car done and running properly as quickly as possible.

This is going to be bothering me all day until I can look at the car. You're saying that pin 50, MAF 5V+ is actually -5v, so the PCM is expecting a range of approximately (-0.1v)-(-4.6v) on pin 9 as opposed to (+0.1v)-(+4.6v), but other sensors use a +5v ref (pin 26)?

Re: No MAF reading on PCM EEC-IV

No quarterhorse installed, this is a vehicle meant to be a flip, but may play around with tuning it before selling it. Had what I thought was a wiring issue hence going this testing on MAF wiring. Fixed (almost) all of the mechanical issues first, now tackling this lack of MAF signal.

Feeding voltage through a test light is generally very safe as it innately limits current, seems unlikely I burnt anything up. MAF read 0v long before I screwed with anything. That being said, did not know that MAF would return a negative voltage.

I trust you, but I swear I read positive voltage on my DVOM from MAF return wire compared to negative battery terminal, but I wasn't looking for it. Will check again tomorrow.

Agree that cap looks like it's bulging at the bottom, will probably throw in another PCM ASAP and see how it behaves. Kind of expensive unless I can find one in a junkyard locally.

No MAF reading on PCM EEC-IV

T4M0 95 Mustang GT

Is this normal J3 "goop" or am I looking at corrosion?

I'm reading 0v from the MAF even when putting 12v through a test light on the MAF return line. Confirmed continuity through the MAF return line to pin 9 on the EEC connector, lights up my test light nice and bright.

Since the wiring seems to be good, MAF seems to put out correct voltage, I'm strongly suspecting a bad PCM. No obviously blown caps, but one looks suspicious, large one closest to main connector opposite the j3.

Also, I am getting 0.9-1.1v on my TOT (73 degrees C), is that normal for a manual transmission? I.e. bias voltage? ECT and IAT are reading around 2 degrees C.

Re: Tuning laptop configuration

My only issue with DuckDuckGo is that when downloading some various different programs for a fresh windows install (this was for my dad, so he insisted on DDG over Google), the top result brought me to some weird website that looked like, but was not the official website of what I was trying to download (might have been notepad++ or 7zip, both of which are also immediate downloads for me personally). I went through the download/install process so fast I didn't even catch that it wasn't from the official website until after I downloaded it. Was pretty paranoid for a while, though nothing seems to have come of it, antivirus didn't complain about anything either.

I've heard good things about Brave, but I have never used it.

+1 on adblock/adblock plus.
