Re: MOATES -- FYI

I find it so interesting how once something is not available everyone wants to have it. I see this big time with Moates products, I'm even left wanting some products as I write this. There's been a handful of times when I thought I should just buy some J3 stuff but didn't really have an immediate need, so I didn't make the purchase. I suppose I'm part of a niche group in this forum with others that have common interests. For me most of the time I'm happy just reading about the technical challenges of chasing the ones and zeros in between tuning ideas and the old Ford EECs. Maybe because it feels like it's US against the big Ford company, even though I'm like 20 years behind. It'll be interesting to see what happens next, sure seem like Moates could have sold the business along with the IP they've built up. Maybe they didn't realize they have a cult following. What if they just released it all to the public in various forums, would that hurt certain other small businesses?

Thoughts anyone?

Re: MOATES -- FYI

Would you part with one? Do you know if the Burn2 just had a special pigtail to connect it or if there was something more custom done to it? I feel weird thinking about reverse engineering something from Moates I think mostly out of respect. I really do think if they are done for good it's sad for a large group of people and I'm really only thinking of the Ford crowd. I hope the Moates crew are all ok and I'm thankful what they have done and for a long time too. I'm not thinking dollar signs so I wouldn't want anyone getting the wrong idea. Just a hobby for me, maybe someone else will try to pick up the torch.

Re: MOATES -- FYI

I found a picture of a custom Eprom in an A9L I tried to figure out who it came from but couldn't find anyone that claimed it. The picture was on a ECU rebuilders website in an area talking about capacitor replacement. Obviously this is nothing as cool as a Quarterhorse clone, no data logging and such, but looks like an Eprom emulator. I imagine this was created to clone the A9L by installing it into other GUFX EECs. I'm guessing the 3 contacts on the edge is the interface used to load the BIN into it. I found another very crude looking creation also picuters atached.

Controlling a GM 4L80E with a FORD PCM ?

I'm tossing around the idea of a 6.0 LS swap into my 2003 Expedition. I've only just started wondering about this and the first two configurations that cross my mind are.

1. Make the LS run from my Expeditions PowerPC HAP3/RKAOA/HPC-313 find an adapter and keep my 4R70W (This way no driveline work needed)
2.Use my Expeditions PowerPC HAP3/RKAOA/HPC-313 and try to have it run the LS and a 4L80E transmission. (may need an EPC solenoid mod?)

I checked and both 4R70W and 4L80E have the same number of solenoids and use the same truth table to operate the gears. My Expedition is the Eddie Bauer with advancetrack/ABS and a bunch of stuff that would probably be very difficult to run without the Expedition's stock PCM.

Could the FORD calibration be tuned to run a GM 4L80E? Does anyone know how the get a 4R70W mated to a GM LS engine? I can't seem to find an adapter. I can weld, fabricate, and understand wiring and schematics also I realize this is kind of a weird idea. Please give me your thoughts minus any of the blasphemy type criticism.
